Is the movie the Blair Witch Project really based on a true story?

did they really find a tape like the movie??Is the movie the Blair Witch Project really based on a true story?
NOIs the movie the Blair Witch Project really based on a true story?
I always believed it was a true story for about 2 years.

But yesterday I had some friends round and we watched the blair witch project and were discussing if it was real or not.

So I was thinking about it and it can't be real as the tape would be proof that the blair witch or something dodgy does exist.

So we decided to watch the extras and... the directors said they came up with the whole idea of the blair witch and that the tape was discovered bla de blaaa. So basically the film isn't based on a true story.
Hunny! This film is over a decade old and you're still believing the hype?!?!!?

The movie was created as an independent film for a film festival. It got so much hype because they kept advertising it as a true story. It was not real nor was it based on true events!
No, the story about it being based on a true story was made up by the production company as part of an advertizing campaign to promote the movie. None of the stuff in the movie is based on a true story, it's all fake.
No. They were all just actors, and it was entirely fictional. There was even a phony documentary on Sci Fi channel when it first came out; so that's why a lot of people thought it was real.
It is based off of the myth of Blair Witch...but not of the people in the film.
i don't think so

i always thought it was but if you google it, many sources say it's all fictional

would have been pretty cool if it was real huh?
some parts of the movie are true and some aren't.
No, it was just creative hype to get movie-goers to watch it.
