It is a load of rubbish.
It's a good fake, but when it first came out, I saw it right away, ahead of any publicity (like the actors appearing on tv interview shows that had been ';killed'; in the movie) so I got to enjoy the idea that it was real.

I halfway believed that movie until the ending. It just looked so fake. The handprints, the perfect camera drop...give me a break.
It's not true. The people in it were actors, and it was scripted. Check IMDB. The chick who was in it has been in other movies after The Blair Witch Project.

As for the evens in the movie, they're all fiction, because the actors themselves have been interviewed countless times and have said so.


As for the mythy kind of stuff that may have inspired the movie, I have read that there are strange things that happen in that area of Maryland. I even read that some of the Native Americans believe there is something evil in the wooded areas close to where the movie was filmed. I can't remember the websites I found that stuff on, as I read up on it when the movie first came out.
