The director and producer of the film bought a handy cam from Circuit City and called for casting. These actors were told that they will be filming a movie in the woods and that the blair witch is real. So they go to shoot the movie, and then suddenly the director and producer ditches the actors. The actors, thinking its all real, start flipping out, as you see in the movie. Supposedly the director made ';strange noises'; by running through the woods and shuffling leaves, which scared the crap out of the actors. Then they were reported ';missing'; by the producers. The people are still alive, it is just a hoax and the story was real to the actors, but not real in real life. They set everything up to scare them.





Think of it as a psychology experiment, with the actors as the test subjects, who actually thought it was real.
Of course its real. It was on the news and everything. Go on the blair witch project website and look at all the evidence they found. It has parents interveiws, photos of the missing tapes, news reports-everything. The film skips a lot because they only found four tapes out of eleven.

I believe they did that to get ratings. Once I found out it wasn't true it ruin the fun.
It is not based on a true story. It was a clever hoax designed by the creators of the film. It was used to generate excitement to boost box office revenue.
It seems real but unfortunately it is a fake . They admitted to that just before the release. It is very scary however.
ah i love that movie too, but its not based on a true story. they just wanted it to seem like it was to add to the movie.
hmmmm. Its a bunch of kids messing around with a camera. They say its true.......but, some people will do anything to be famous!
I always thought it was a film made by some school kids for fun and then marketed as being true.
