Is the film the blair witch project real/true?

It's not ';true';, but it's kind of hard to say it's not ';real';.

There is no witch in the woods that's going around killing kids who wander around getting lost. But, the actors who were all in the movie were all just kind of told to go out and spend a weekend in the woods filming themselves as they found things like the sticks and the finger and they weren't told what to expect or what was going to happen to them next. They would also find cans with their names on them that would give them an idea of what would be going on, but the scene with the scratching outside the tent, I don't think they were told what was going on there. The fear and paranoia that they feel and develop over the weekend is real and that's why it's so effective.

What I mean by all that is: While the story that the movie tells is fake, the emotions and fears of the actors in the movie is real. So, it's a False story with Real fear sort of thing. Is the film the blair witch project real/true?
No, it is 100% fiction

The misconception that it is a true story or based on true story came from the way it was marketed.

It was one of the first movies successfully marketed via the internet and they purposely started web-buzz about it being true to get people to check out the site and want to see the movie.

Effing brilliant, if you ask me. (Especially considering that some people are still wondering about it's origins)Is the film the blair witch project real/true?
No.

It was a carefully crafted, craftily orchestrated online phenomenon which grew in popularity with repeated hits until it reached the big screen. It was shot on a shoestring with hardly any budget at all(in fact, the director went into hock to buy the equipment). But there never was and is not now a real Blair Witch although the town of Burkettsville does exist
No it is not real. It was shot by a couple of student film makers (Daniel Myrick, Eduardo Sč°Šnchez) with the help of some of their friends. I don't know which copy of the dvd it is, but one of them actually has interviews with the people who ';disappeared'; in the movie.
some rumors said it's false.. some friends of mine told me that the police found the film later after the people in the film were missed, and then the film was published, but i dont know if it's true.
No it`s fiction - they`re ALL actors ,even the cameramen make brief unscheduled appearances LOL.
No, it was just some amateur kids making a point that they could make a realistic scary film. Without being Hollywood stars. I didn't like it though.
No, because you can look it up on imdb.com and all of the actors have been on movies since then. :]
No! they were all real actors :]
