Is it true that when we are dehydrated the blue viens on our wrists ';disappear'; as in they donot project out ?

as in they ';sink in'; to the layers of skin?Is it true that when we are dehydrated the blue viens on our wrists ';disappear'; as in they donot project out ?
Well, sort of. As you dehydrate, you know you lose fluid/water faster than you are able to replace it. Eventually enough fluid is lost that there is a slight decrease in the total volume or amount of blood filling your veins and arteries. Since there is less to fill them, the prominent veins you usually see and feel easily become less visible and more difficult to palpate. It makes starting the Intravenous line to give you replacement fluids a little more difficult to do, especially in a child who has smaller veins to start with. If the dehydration is particularly severe, it can be a real challenge not to collapse the vein trying to start the line and keep it open without blowing the vein. The veins don't so much sink into the tissue, they are in the same place roughly, just not as full as usual. Veins move within tissue a little under normal circumstances, as a way of regulating heat, moving slightly closer to the surface when we are warm and slightly lower when we are cold. Hope this helps. Is it true that when we are dehydrated the blue viens on our wrists ';disappear'; as in they donot project out ?
Im not shore? but next time i am dehydrated i will have a look!!
i think they do too.
This is definitely true. When we are properly hydrated our blood volume keeps the veins plump but when dehydrated the smaller blood volume results in shrinking veins. Some labs will instruct patients to fast except for plain water to make the veins more accessible for drawing blood.
Your veins show more when your more hydrated. I believe that veins have more to do when your body is pumped such as lifting weights since you have a bunch of blood flowing through your body.

If you workout you'd notice that more veins are noticeable when your ';oumoed';. Thats mostly why bodybuilders will do some light curls before a show.
When you dehydrate, your veins can collaps and yes, it would be hard to find them / locate them if per example, you needed to get a shot or get a blood test.

I just spent a night in a hospitale becuase of a virus that made me so sick that I dehydrated. The nurse couldn't find a vein - and usually and I don't have this problem. Not only that, your skin becomes so hard that it was hard for the nurse to put a needle through it....

So yes, the blue lines can disappear on your wrists
